Haddon Flooring

How did your company get started in the flooring industry?
Sort of by accident actually. I've been a real estate investor and developer for almost 25 years now, and I've done over 100,000-square-foot of my own flooring. I have amazing installers, and when I see a floor that wasn't done right, or has soft spots when you walk on it, I cringe. The world deserves better quality floor installation.
What inspired you to focus on flooring specifically?
I love the look of new luxury flooring in a home. And I know firsthand that great flooring in a rental property can significantly increase the rent, and in many cases generate the landlord a 60%-plus annual return on the investment in those new floors. But we don't just do flooring. We also specialize in custom wainscoting accent walls and other trim projects, coffered ceilings and luxury custom decks.
What separates you from other flooring companies?
Our attention to detail and quality of installation. We're a local company that is fast, reliable and in most cases significantly more affordable than some of the larger chains.
What type of experience does your customer have from beginning to end?
We offer free estimates and in-home design consultations. They can choose from great products that we recommend or go right into any Floor & Decor, Home Depot or Lowes and pick their flooring—we have partnerships with all of those companies. We have fast turnaround installations to minimize any down time in their home and provide beautiful new living spaces for them to enjoy for years to come.
Are there any current flooring trends homeowners or businesses are asking for most?
Light colors have been trending for a while now, but we're starting to see some more medium shades more frequently. In general I think a great earth tone does not go out of style. I never really personally loved the grey trend a few years back. It didn't seem natural, and a little too dull.
How do you stay ahead of new technology or design in the industry?
Our entire staff does ongoing trainings on all of the best products in the industry, and cutting edge applications of those products. One in particular that we are a preferred installer for is Bison Decking. They have this amazing deck product for back yards, roof decks and more that looks really sharp. Check out our Instagram page for some pictures of it @haddonflooring.
Do you provide both residential and commercial services?
Yes, at the moment, we're about 60% residential and 40% commercial, but it goes up and down. We are happy to work with either as the jobs come in. We have a 160,000-square-foot commercial project coming up that will keep one of our crews busy for a little while.
What's the most durable flooring option you recommend for families with kids or pets?
Luxury vinyl planks are somewhat indestructible. I love a good natural hardwood, but it may not be the best fit for all areas, such as when you have your living room flooring continue right into the kitchen. I have luxury vinyl in my house, and my three crazy kids put it to the test for sure. It still looks great.
How do you help customers choose the right floor for their needs?
The look and style is personal, and we work with them to choose it, but ultimately it's what makes them happy. Once we have the look worked out, the specific product is determined by its location. Basements, for example, can be damp, and we suggest a specific product for that application. Same for kitchens where water can sit on the floor around the sink on occasion.
