Capital Kitchen Refacing
Capital Kitchen Refacing

It doesn’t matter which room in the house might need a little facelift, when it’s time for a remodel, it can be associated with a time-consuming and grueling process—sometimes even placed on the backburner. However, with professionals at Capital Kitchen Refacing, clients know they’re in the best hands when it comes to upgrading their cabinetry.

This small, family-operated business is operated by co-owners Walt and Matt Graff. They complete custom cabinet refacing projects from beginning to end, and want to make sure the top-of-the-line products make it into your everyday living space. “You’re dealing with us through the whole process,” Walt says. “We’re completing the work in our shop, installing in your home, all the while working directly with the customer one on one.”

House & Home spoke with Walt and Matt about the ¾ inch solid wood they offer and how it makes them stand out from the rest.

What services does Capital Kitchen Refacing offer?
Our unique feature is the use of ¾ inch solid wood in refacing and that’s what we really want to promote. We do not use any laminates in our process, so it’s never going to peel off. We use all real wood in our process. We do all custom cabinetry so if somebody wants to add a cabinet in another area, along with refacing, we can match it and the room would flow and all be brand new.

Would you say offering the ¾ inch solid wood makes you stand out from your competition?
Yes, we have many customers tell us to let people know that we do the ¾ inch wood because it’s a better product than the laminate. This is what we’re up against. We need to be recognized as the company who uses the ¾ [solid  wood] as opposed to everybody else who uses laminate.

What are the benefits to having the ¾ solid wood?
It’s simply a better product and it’s never going to peel off. I was with a customer and they told me they had used a laminate. It eventually peeled off all over their cabinets. This is where Capital is different. It’s never going to peel off because it’s solid wood.  [The solid wood] definitely is going to last longer. We could also change the configuration of the cabinet because we’re putting a new frame on top of the existing. We can cut the guts out of a base cabinet and put a new frame up and make it totally different than what it was before.

When should a homeowner remodel their cabinets?
That’s up to the homeowner. Currently, we’re removing many cabinets of the oak that people had installed in the ’80s and ’90s. We’re installing a lot of white shades and gray shades. The main reason for a remodel is the homeowner feels their kitchen is outdated.

What are some upcoming trends you’re seeing in kitchen remodeling?
White and gray [color schemes] are trending. We’re doing more gray now than we’ve done before, but still many whites. The other trend we’re noticing is drawers as opposed to doors on the base cabinets. Customers are having big pot drawers as opposed to doors. Standard drawers are all dovetail with a soft close track. We could also add soft close to the doors as well.

What is the whole process once a client comes to you for cabinet refacing?
We schedule an appointment or a customer can forward pictures via email. They’ll show us what they are interested in. We do a sketch if needed and obtain approval. We then build the product to desired specifications and install.
