This year you celebrate your 41st anniversary. What thoughts and emotions come to mind when you think about that?
Unlike other deck companies who build decks in the spring and summer, and fade into indoor work, we at Get Decked have been constant and dedicated to one trade. With 41 years of experience solely constructing decks, we feel proud to have been repeatedly voted Delaware's Best Deck Builder over the past decade.

What made you start Get Decked?
Our name kind of picked us. We started out as carpenters building condos and when the homes were completed, I would stay back and finish the decks. I worked on hundreds upon hundreds of decks, and so I ran ads in the newspaper to get side work and my wife picked the catchy name—Get Decked.

Where did you draw inspiration in order to start and build this incredible business?
In 1985, when I first started my deck business, my passion was building decks and I wanted to keep honing the craft in order to build each deck better than the last. At that time, there were many home improvement contractors, but none that strictly built decks. More than four decades later, there are hundreds of companies who earn a living building decks—when it's sunny and nice.

How has Get Decked earn its reputation for excellence with homeowners?
Customers today choose their contractor by comparing bids, with some of our customers gathering as many as 10 estimates. But at the end of the day, they are really looking for a few important things when choosing a deck builder: honesty, a fair price and a guarantee that the deck will be covered if any issues arise.

At Get Decked, there is a reason why we have stood the test of time for more than four decades. Our customers know the company they can trust.

Where do you expect to go in the next 15 years? In what ways do you expect to continue to grow?
Moving forward, Get Decked is poised to be stronger than ever, thanks to Kayla, Michael and Jerry, who have been instilled with the same work ethic and integrity the company was founded on, and look forward to carry on its legacy for the next 40 years as Mike and Connie prepare to step aside soon. The younger generation's passion and dedication make it evident that Get Decked's future will be just as bright as its past.
